Former Premier League footballer Adam Le Fondre has joined City Football Group as a Video Scout.
The 37-year-old was top scorer for Reading for three consecutive seasons (2011/12, 2012/13 and 2013/14) and played a pivotal role in them winning the Championship title in 2012.
He played in their Premier League campaign in 2013 and was named Premier League Player of the Month for January 2013. Le Fondre is still playing, for FC United of Manchester in the Northern Premier Division, but is looking ahead to the next stage of his career.
Sessions with: David Court, Ian Yates, Dean Austin, Kevin Braybrook, Marijn Beuker, Craig Innes/ Liam Bailey, Simon Cooper, Glyn Chamberlain/ Joe McClaren/ Andy Burton and Simon Wilson.
Speaking to the Reading Chronicle earlier this month, he said: “I’m not deluded, I understand I won’t play forever. That’s why I’m making plans for my post-football career.
“I have a job lined up, ready to transition into a new career because there are still 30 to 40 years ahead of me, if not more. I’m hopeful that I’ll soon start a scouting role with The City Group, focusing on emerging talent, which is something that excites me.
“My ambition is to eventually reach a Head of Recruitment role, but I know it’s essential to earn that position. I’m fully prepared to climb the ladder and learn as I go, ensuring that by the time I retire, I’ll be ready for the next chapter.”
This is an unusual move for a former player, especially a Premier League one, with the focus tending to be on coaching roles. Le Fondre had a loan spell at one of CFG’s clubs, Mumbai City, in 2020/21.
