Former Manchester City Head of Performance Donough Holohan is to head up the performance and medical department at French side Saint-Etienne.

Holohan left City in March after 13 years’ service in order to ‘seek a new adventure.’ He has now found that with Saint-Etienne, a famous European name, but one that has experienced tough times in recent seasons.

The club were relegated from Ligue 1 last season, but are now under new ownership in the form of Canadian investment group Kilmer Sports Ventures, who have installed former Arsenal Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis as their President.

Holohan’s title will be Director of Performance and he will be joined in France by:

  • Dave Tivey: The former Nottingham Forest and Swansea City Head of Performance, who has a long association with Steve Cooper, stretching back to their time together with the England youth teams. Most recently, Tivey worked as a PDP Performance Coach at Chelsea.
  • Calum Daley: Former Head of Performance at Ebbsfleet and Leyton Orient and Head of Academy Sport Science at QPR and Colchester United. Most recent role was with Charlton, as Interim Women’s First Team S&C Coach.

In May, Holohan wrote an excellent piece for TGG with his 10 rules for effective monitoring.

“What is hard to argue against is continued investment in great practitioners – and processes that recognise the unique value of interaction,” he wrote.
