Gavin Fleig is leaving Manchester City after 17 years to become Chief Executive of Salford City.

Fleig has been a significant figure at Manchester City over the course of almost two decades, rising from First Team Opposition Analyst to Director of Talent Management and Development Pathways across the whole of City Football Group.

He officially joins Salford on October 1st. The League Two club said his arrival would bring “a bold vision and proven leadership that will propel Salford City to new heights on and off the pitch.”

Sir David Beckham and Gary Neville were part of a consortium that took control of Salford in May.

Fleig said: “I couldn’t be more excited to join Salford City FC at such an important moment. This club is entering a new chapter with clear determination and huge untapped potential.

Neville added: “Gavin is exactly the kind of leader we’ve been looking for – strategic, passionate, and forward-thinking.

“His belief in the club’s potential is only matched by his determination to make things happen. We’ve got big goals at Salford City, and with Gavin at the helm, we’re confident we can deliver on them.”

Fleig joined Manchester City in June 2008 as First Team Opposition Analyst, having previously been Head of Performance Analysis at Newcastle United and a Performance Analyst (under Sam Allardyce) at Bolton Wanderers.

He rose to become Head of Performance Analysis and then Head of Scouting and Recruitment Operations, before taking senior roles with the wider ownership group, CFG, first as Global Lead for Talent Management (2014) and then Director of Talent Management and Development Pathways (2018).

Talent Science involves taking a scientific look at the individual development pathways of Academy and senior players. This was a particular area of investment for CFG during Fleig’s time in post.
