Head of Recruitment Dan Purdy has left Everton after more than a decade to become the new Technical Director at Rangers.

Purdy replaces Nils Koppen – who had been in post for 18 months – at the Glasgow club. He will “lead on all aspects” of Rangers’ recruitment and talent identification pathway, across their men’s, women’s and Academy teams.

Purdy had been with Everton since 2014, except for a three-month hiatus after he resigned amidst a power struggle between Director of Football Marcel Brands and Manager Rafa Benitez.

He was persuaded to return by Director of Football Kevin Thelwell, who will now be his boss at Rangers. Thelwell and Purdy worked their first day at Rangers’ training ground today (June 2nd).

Purdy’s Everton journey started with a Performance Analysis internship in 204 and he rose to become Technical Scout, Technical Scouting Co-ordinator and then Manager of Scouting and Operations.

His most recent role was as Head of Recruitment.

Speaking on his first day at Rangers, Thelwell said: “It’s a great honour to be joining Rangers, particularly at such an exciting moment in the club’s history.

“While there has been significant work going on in the background prior to my arrival, that naturally accelerates from today, and top of the priority list will be the appointment of a new Head Coach for our men’s first-team.

“That search has been progressing well, and the club and I look forward to bringing that to a conclusion in the coming days. This is a new chapter for Rangers, and while we recognise success won’t come easy, our goal is clear: we need to win.

“My focus is on delivering that, with discipline and ambition. We’ll give everything to move this club forward as quickly and sustainably as we can.”

The duo arrived 72 hours after the club’s majority ownership changed hands to a consortium of investors led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises.
