Dave Reddington has been named as Everton’s first Set Piece Coach for almost a year ahead of the new Premier League season.
Reddington took on the role in the final month of the last campaign and the club have now confirmed he has been given the post permanently.
Reddington replaces Charlie Adam, who was the Toffees’ first Set Piece Coach from January to June 2025.
Last season from set-pieces in the Premier League, Everton scored 13 goals, the joint 10th-best total, while only five teams conceded fewer than their 11 goals.
‘Future always in coaching’
Reddington spent almost 14 years working at Crystal Palace in two spells. He started in the Academy in 2004, before moving to Watford’s Academy in 2009. He returned to Palace in the 2013 close season to run their Under-23 side before four years later being promoted to First Team Coach – a role he kept for four years.
He also spent three years as Assistant Head Coach at Danish club AGF Fodbold and, more recently, two years as First Team Coach at AFC Wimbledon.
Reddington moved into coaching at the relatively young age of 22 after being what he said was a “lightweight” centre-half in non-league football.
In an interview with TGG in 2024, he said: “I was taking the Under-19s at Stevenage in the day and the U12s at Palace in the evenings.
“The hours I was doing were crazy, but all the time I was learning the art of coaching. You had to be adaptable, because you didn’t know how many players would turn up for the session, if there would be trialists, if players would be pulling out.
“I really enjoyed it and knew this was where my future lay, because I was a better coach than a player.”
Writing on X, he said of his appointment by Everton: “Delighted to have joined Everton, can feel the family already. Also want to say thank you to everyone at AFC Wimbledon for two great seasons.”
Everton, who finished 13th in the Premier League last season, get their new campaign under way at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday, 22 August.
