Chris Elderkin has been promoted to Head of Physical Performance at Manchester City, replacing Donough Holohan.

Elderkin has worked for City for almost 12 years. He joined in September 2013 from Bolton, initially working as a Sport Scientist in City’s Academy.

In 2022, he was promoted to first-team duties, as Sport Scientist, and has worked closely with City’s senior staff and players for three seasons.

Holohan left City in March after almost 13 years in order to seek a ‘new adventure’ and City have decided to look internally for his successor.

Holohan was one of the first to congratulate Elderkin for his promotion on LinkedIn, writing: “Congratulations Chris. Hard-earned, thoroughly deserved. A brilliant appointment.”

City go into next season with a new-look backroom staff. Pep Lijnders and James French recently joined, as Assistant and Set Piece Coach respectively, while Juanma Lillo, Carlos Vicens and Inigo Dominguez have all departed.

Hugo Viana is now overseeing football operations as Director of Football and is currently revamping scouting and recruitment operations.
