Gary O'Neil

Manager

Appointed in June 2026 on a three-year contract to replace Kieran McKenna. For the second half of last season he was in charge of French side Strasbourg, leading them to the Uefa Conference League semi-finals. This is his third managerial role in the Premier League after previously being in charge of Bournemouth and Wolves. Played more than 500 senior games in midfield for clubs including Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and Norwich and he also won nine England Under-21 caps.

Tim Jenkins

Assistant Manager

Appointed in June 2026 to continue his partnership with Gary O’Neil. The pair first met at Liverpool’s Academy, where Jenkins worked for more than 10 years, and he followed O’Neil to Bournemouth, Wolves and Strasbourg. After playing non-league football, he started his coaching career with three years as a First Team Analyst at Derby before spending almost two years as an Elite Development Analyst at Manchester City.

Neil Critchley

First Team Coach

Appointed as part of Gary O’Neil’s backroom staff in June 2026. First worked with O’Neil at Strasbourg last season. Had two spells as Head Coach of Blackpool and has been also been in charge of QPR and Hearts, while he was also Steven Gerrard’s Assistant at Aston Villa. Had a brief playing career before starting coaching at Crewe and becoming joint director of their famed Academy. Joined Liverpool as Under-18s coach in 2013 and had two brief spells in charge of the first team.

Stuart Lewis

First Team Coach

Added to Gary O’Neil’s staff in July 2026. Lifelong Spurs fans who spent 11 years working for the club – joining as a part-time coach in 2015 and then becoming full-time Under-16s coach in 2019. Coached different age groups and last season was appointed First Team Academy Transition Coach. Started his playing career at Spurs without playing for them but did make more than 400 senior appearances in midfield in the professional and non-league game for clubs including Wycombe, Gillingham, Ebbsfleet and Maidstone.

Sone Aluko

First Team Coach

Appointed as a first-team coach in July 2024 after three years playing for the club under McKenna (who is three years his senior). Former Reading, Fulham, Hull and Aberdeen forward made seven appearances for the Nigeria national team.

First Team Coach-Analyst

Another staff member to follow Gary O’Neil from Strasbourg in June 2026. Spent more than nine-and-a-half years at Wolves as an Analyst – working his way up through the Academy age groups until becoming Lead First Team Performance Analyst in 2023, which is where he worked with O’Neil for the first time.

Head of Goalkeeping

Former Swindon Town Assistant currently serves as Goalkeeper Coach for Ipswich and the Republic of Ireland. Started coaching in 2021 after retiring from playing with Bristol City.

Moved to Ipswich in May 2021, having previously worked with Ashton and Probert at Bristol City. Was a physiotherapist at Watford, West Ham and Arsenal before that. Oversees all the medical, strength and conditioning and sports science functions at the club.

Head of Athletic Performance

Worked for Tottenham for 13 years before joining Ipswich in July 2023. Move reunited him with McKenna, with whom he had worked at the Tottenham Academy.

First Team Fitness Coach

Ex-Premier League player who retired in 2018 and became Stevenage’s Fitness Coach soon after. Stayed with the Hertfordshire club for three years before joining Ipswich in May 2021.

Promoted to current role in the summer of 2025, having joined the club in August 2024 as First Team Strength and Conditioning Coach. Before that, spent just over seven years at Bristol City as Strength and Conditioning Coach for different age group teams – the last 14 months of which was with the first team.

Joined in June 2025 after nearly two years at Swansea – half of which was spent as Assistant First Team Sports Scientist.

Has a degree in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Bath. Moved into football by becoming Head of Sports Science at Bath City. Then moved to Bristol City, Wales Women and finally Ipswich, in 2022.

Joined the club in August 2023 having worked as an Athletic Trainer and Body Coach in the USA.

Ian Ferguson

Club Doctor

Joined in July 2025 from Cardiff City where he had been First Team Doctor for eight months. Has also worked as Doctor for Newport County for four years, part-time Club Doctor for Bristol Rovers for six-and-a-half years and part-time Chief Medical Officer for Gloucestershire County Cricket Club for just over a year. Is also part-time Doctor for the Irish Football Association, a role he has held since January 2011.

Career started working in hospitals in East Anglia. Began work at Ipswich as a match-day physio in 1996, working his way up to become Head of Medical in 2021.

Worked in football since 2005. Started in the academies of Charlton, QPR and West Ham, before moving to the Hammers’ first team. Was later head physio at Reading and Rangers, as well as a first team role at Norwich. Has been at Ipswich since November 2024.

Started as an intern at Ipswich and then joined as a Development Coach in 2016. Moved into analysis with the Academy in 2021 and with the first team from 2023.
