Chief Medical Officer Charlotte Cowie is leaving the Football Association after almost a decade to join the British Olympic Association.
Cowie joined the FA in August 2016 and has been one of the organisation’s most senior female staff. She had worked at St George’s Park, the national football centre, since it opened in 2012, having been Clinical Director for Spire Perform at SGP from 2012 to 2016.
In her role, Cowie oversaw medical teams accompanying England teams on camps and tournaments, including responsibility for senior men’s and women’s teams during World Cups and European Championships.
She has also contributed to medical strategy and research tied to England teams.
Writing on LinkedIn, Cowie said: “I will leave the FA on 22nd March having worked at St George’s Park since it opened in 2012 and having worked as an FA employee since 2016.
“An opportunity to take up the role of CMO for the British Olympic Association has lured me away from what has been the highlight of my career, trying to make a difference to medical care in our national sport. Massive honour and privilege; time to hand on the baton.”
Cowie served as Chief Medical Officer for the BOA at the Paris 2024 Olympics, but this was a Games-specific role, whereas this one is permanent.
