Chelsea continue staff rebuild by hiring Arsenal Goalkeeper Coach

Mason had been with Arsenal since September 2023, when he was appointed Head of Academy Goalkeeping. Prior to that he had almost two years as Head of Goalkeeping and Set Piece Coach under Phil Neville at Inter Miami.

He had also worked with Neville for England Women and the England Men’s youth teams. From 2012 to 2016, Mason worked with Brighton, in both Academy and first-team roles. Chelsea’s Head of Global Goalkeeping is Ben Roberts, who arrived under Graham Potter but remained under Mauricio Pochettino and Enzo Maresca. 

The Blues have insisted he will stay with the club, despite Potter’s recent appointment by West Ham. Michele De Bernardin is Chelsea’s First Team Goalkeeper Coach, having arrived with Maresca in the summer.

As TGG has outlined, Chelsea have been rapidly growing their backroom staff over the course of the last two seasons under owners Clearlake and Todd Boehly. The revamp has been led by Sporting Directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley over the last couple of seasons and has included the following hires:

• Bernardo Cueva (Set Piece Coach) from Brentford
• Matthew Parker (Goalkeeping Analysis Manager) from Brighton
• Bryce Cavanagh (Director of Performance) from FA
• Nick Chadd (Head of Performance Services) from Benfica
• Tom Taylor (Lead Physical Performance Coach) from Rangers
• Richard Akenhead (Head of Performance Insights) from FA
• Craig Roberts (Head of Performance Medicine) from Bournemouth
• Woody Dewar (Head of Performance Analysis) from Wolves
• Fraser Ewing (Lead Data Scientist) from Angstrom
