Burton looking for new Sporting Director after Hareide exit

However, Hareide has now stepped down permanently “due to a personal circumstance with his daughter” and has ended his association with both Burton Albion and NFG.

Deputy Chairman Tom Davidson said: “Bendik was with us at the start of our journey with Burton Albion last year and we have experienced a lot in this short time, particularly during our first summer where he led on overhauling the entire coaching and playing squad.

“Due to his personal circumstances, we have agreed that now is the right time for Bendik to step away permanently so he can continue to give his full focus to his daughter and family without any distractions. They all remain in our thoughts and continue to have our full support.”

Hareide added: “After careful consideration, I have decided to step away from my roles with both Burton Albion and NFG. Positions such as these demand full focus and 100% commitment, which I am not able to give under the current circumstances.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank NFG, Burton Albion, and the club’s fantastic fans for the support I have received. It has meant a great deal to me and my family.”

The club installed Gary Bowyer as Head Coach in December and have now pulled out of the relegation zone in League One. Burton said they were “working to appoint a permanent Sporting Director” and had also been “restructuring the recruitment department.”
