Christoph Bühler has left Norwich City after three years to become a First-Team Coach at Derby County.

The 48-year-old German will focus on the transition of players from Academy to first team at Pride Park, as well as ‘opposition insight’.

His link to the club was Leigh Bromby, who is now working as Derby’s Recruitment Lead. The duo worked together at Huddersfield Town, when Bromby was Academy Manager and Bühler was Assistant to David Wagner.

Bühler joined Norwich with Wagner in January 2023 but, in an unusual move, moved to work in the Academy after the Head Coach’s sacking in May 2024. Bühler, who had been keen to stay so as not to uproot his family, worked across different age groups in the Norwich Academy.

Bromby joined Derby as their Interim Recruitment Lead in April 2025, although the club are eager to make his appointment permanent following two successful transfer windows under his charge.

Derby CEO Stephen Pearce: “I need to have conversations on that but, from our perspective, it’s been fantastic since Leigh’s been in. We work really well together, all of us.

“The remit he has said since he’s been in is the talent acquisition – he’s the one who’s always on the phone. He’s been excellent. You can see the successes of how it’s all come together.”

Bromby also runs his own recruitment and advisory firm, Bromby and Partners, along with Darius Henderson and Stuart Webber.

Derby have recently revamped their recruitment department, Bromby coming in and Ed Smith and Mo Bobat, the joint Heads of Sporting Intelligence, departing. The duo joined Hundred cricket franchise London Spirit in October.

Talent Identification Lead Mark Thomas also left the club by mutual consent in October.
