Brighton and Hove Albion have appointed Yannick Euvrard as their new Set Piece Coach.

Euvrard arrives after two seasons doing the same job for Belgian top flight club Anderlecht as part of the club’s data analysis and performance team.

He had a short playing career as a right-back with Cercle Brugge, Waregem, Leuven and Roeselare and started his coaching career by joining the Belgian Football Association as a Senior Performance and Data Analyst in January 2019. He moved on to become Data Analytics Lead and Data and Technology Expert before joining Anderlecht in the summer of 2023.

Brighton had two Set Piece Coaches last season – Jonas Scheuermann for attacking ones and Marco Knoop for the defensive ones. The pair also had other responsibilities and Scheuermann will continue as one of Fabian Hurzeler’s Assistant Head Coaches, while Knoop, who was also one of the Seagulls’ Goalkeeper Coaches, left the club in June.

Hurzeler confirmed that Euvrard will work on all set-pieces – both attacking and defensive.

The Seagulls’ first-ever Set Piece Coach was Nick Stanley, who took on the role in 2019 but moved to Norwich in the 2024 close season.

‘Make every detail count’

Euvrard said on LinkedIn: “Grateful for the trust and the opportunity to contribute to a club that’s widely respected for its values, data-driven approach and innovation.

“Looking forward to working with a top-level staff and players to make every detail count and help the club reach their goals.”

Technical Director David Weir said: “Yannick has built up an excellent reputation in Belgium and we are pleased to bring in his expertise in an area that continues to be game-changing at our level.”

Brighton had advertised the role on TGG. The job description said: “In this role, you will lead the development of our set-piece strategy, designing and delivering innovative coaching practices to bring it to life on the pitch.

“You’ll conduct in-depth analysis of opposition behaviours and patterns to identify strengths, exploit weaknesses, and stay ahead of emerging trends. Your insights and creativity will play a key role in helping BHAFC set the standard and strive for excellence.”
