Brentford have appointed Jamie Greenwood as their Interim Academy Director and formally applied for Category One status.
Greenwood steps up from Head of Football Development to replace Stephen Torpey, who has now left the Bees to join Manchester United. Brentford are also advertising on TGG for a permanent Academy Director to replace Torpey.
Closes: October 3rd
Greenwood joined the west London club in May 2024 in the new role of Head of Football Development, which is Brentford’s equivalent of the traditional Head of Coaching position. Prior to this, Greenwood had spent more than 11 years at Reading, working over their entire pathway (9s to 21s) before becoming Head of Coaching.
Last month, we revealed that Torpey was leaving Brentford to become the new Academy Director at Manchester United, replacing Nick Cox. Torpey had been with the Bees since January 2024, when he joined from Manchester City.
Under his charge, Brentford climbed from Category Four Academy status to Category Two in the summer of 2024, becoming the first club to jump two Categories in one go. Now they have submitted their application to go Category One and the Premier League side are confident this will happen in time for the start of the 2026/27 season.
Under Torpey, Brentford also set the target of becoming the most caring and progressive Academy in the world, which will be one of the key responsibilities for the new Academy Director.
