BLACKPOOL have paid tribute to their Academy Manager Warren Green, who has died at the age of 46.

Green had worked for the club since August 2016 and been Academy Manager since September 2017.

In recent seasons, he had “courageously battled against cancer while working in his role and was a continuous inspiration to all those around him,” Blackpool said in a statement.

Owner Simon Sadler added: “Gillian and I would like to pass on our sincere condolences to Warren’s family and friends. What was instantly recognisable when I first met Warren was that he was a thoroughly genuine man who clearly cared for the club and always had the club’s best interests at heart.

“I was taken aback by his remarkable bravery as he battled his illness and am truly humbled by the positive manner by which he continued to conduct himself.”

Chief Executive Ben Mansford said: "From the day I joined the club, I was bowled over and inspired by Warren’s love for the club and desire for the Academy to be successful.

“In very difficult circumstances, Warren ensured the Academy continued to operate at the best level possible. Warren was a true gentleman and professional. Warren’s energy and personable nature, along with his big smile, will be greatly missed."

Green had a long association with Blackpool, having played in their Academy and also coached in the community and Centre of Excellence.

He coached in Sweden for several years before returning to Bloomfield Road in 2017.
