SIX backroom staff are leaving Wolves along with manager Nuno Espírito Santo following the end of the Premier League season.

On Friday, the club announced that their Portuguese boss was leaving by mutual consent after four seasons.

Now TGG can reveal that six backroom staff will be exiting along with him. They are:

  • Rui Pedro Silva (assistant)
  • Ian Cathro (first-team coach)
  • Julio Figueroa (first-team coach)
  • Rui Barbosa (goalkeeper coach)
  • Antonio Dias (fitness coach)
  • Joao Lapa (rehab coach)

All arrived as part of Nuno’s backroom staff and all but one (the Scot Cathro) are Portuguese.

When it was announced that he was joining the coaching staff, in the summer of 2018, Cathro, who had worked with Nuno at Rio Ave and Valencia, said: “I am very excited about joining Wolves and looking forward to working with a coach and staff I know, trust and believe in.

“All of us share the same footballing philosophy and that is such an important factor for a successful coaching team. Wolves is a fantastic club with a rich history and lots of potential, and I can’t wait to get started.”

When the manager’s exit was announced, chairman Jeff Shi said: “Nuno has brought us some incredibly special moments at Wolves that will never be forgotten but every chapter comes to an end.

“His loyalty and dedication over the last four years has been immeasurable and we cannot thank him enough for the progress he has made for Wolves.”

Wolves lost 2-1 to Manchester United at Old Trafford in their final game of the 2020/21 Premier League season, which also marked a farewell for Nuno.
