DANNY MURPHY has succeeded Derek Wright as the new Head Physio at Newcastle United, with Nathan Ring coming in as Senior Physio.

Wright stepped down at the end of last season after a phenomenal 38-year stint with the Toon. Murphy was the Head Physio at Charlton and has also worked with England Under-21s, La Liga, West Ham and Crystal Palace.

Ring is currently the England U21s physio and Head of Performance Support Services with Hibernian. He has worked with British Gymnastics, Brighton and Shrewsbury Town.

The duo know Newcastle United Technical Director Dan Ashworth from their time with The FA. They join a medical department that is headed up by Dr Paul Catterson and also includes physio Dani Marti, who has been with the Magpies since 2016, and Head of Rehab Sean Beech, who been with them for almost 13 years.

The hugely experienced Dave Galley, formerly the Head Physio at Liverpool, has been working with the club since February and will continue with them until the end of 2022.

Meanwhile, Shwan Jilal has been appointed first-team goalkeeper coach. He joins from Stockport County, where he was Head of Goalkeeping.
