TOTTENHAM fitness and reconditioning coach Anton McElhone has been named Head of Fitness at the New England Revolution.

Head coach Brad Friedel, who worked with the Scot for four years at Spurs, played a key part in the appointment.

He said: "Anton's experience at the very highest level of world soccer will be essential for our players to reach the physical fitness required to compete at elite levels.

"I know from first-hand experience all the qualities he possesses on and off the field. His dedication and professionalism will be important pieces for us as we work to move the club forward."

McElhone has been with Spurs since 2007, when he joined from Hibernian. He initially worked with the Under-18 and Under-21 squad, before being promoted to first-team duties as Fitness and Reconditioning Coach in July 2011.

Like an increasing number of top fitness staff, McElhone is also a highly-qualified coach, holding the Uefa A coaching license.
