Sam Jewell: Departure from Brighton was announced in February

Sam Jewell has officially started work at Chelsea as Director of Global Recruitment after completing a period of gardening leave at Brighton.

In February, it was announced that Jewell - the son of former Wigan manager Paul Jewell - had accepted a senior recruitment role at Chelsea. However, his title was not disclosed and he had to embark on a period of gardening leave with the Seagulls. That has now ended, allowing him to take up duties with the Blues.

The 34-year-old had worked for Brighton since May 2016, having started off as Recruitment Manager for the Under-21s, before being promoted to Emerging Talent Manager in March 2019.

In November 2022, he was appointed Interim Head of Recruitment and then got the job on a permanent basis in February 2023. At Stamford Bridge, he will report into Co-Sporting Directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley. He previously worked with Winstanley at Brighton. Joe Shields is Chelsea's Co-Director of Recruitment and Talent.

Assistant Technical Director Mike Cave and Scouting and Intelligence Manager George Holmes have assumed Jewell’s former responsibilities at Brighton.
