Steven Reid: Served Nottingham Forest during two separate spells

First Team Coach Steven Reid has left Nottingham Forest after his second stint with the club.

The former Republic of Ireland international, 43, originally joined as part of Chris Hughton's staff in October 2020 and remained when Steve Cooper took over and played an integral role in the club’s return to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years.

In July 2022, he took the decision to embark on a new challenge as a specialist coach offering support to players around confidence, leadership and wellbeing, before returning to assist Cooper in July 2023.

He remained when the Welshman was sacked in December 2023 and became part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s staff.

Reid announced his departure on LinkedIn, saying: “So my time at Nottingham Forest has come to an end. Would like to wish everybody at the club every success for the future.

“Some amazing memories shared over three seasons that will live with me forever.”

Reid was our guest on Episode #41 of the TGG Podcast, just after he had left Forest for the first time, and explained why he was setting up as a confidence, leadership and wellbeing consultant.

“It’s probably quite an unusual step for someone with my coaching career so far to make this move, given that we had just been promoted to the Premier League,” the UEFA Pro Licence coach said.

“But it's what I’ve wanted to do for a long time and I felt this was becoming more of a passion for me than the other side. Three, four days after the play-off final I’m thinking, 'How can you walk away from another season in the Premier League?'

“But I went with my heart and this is hopefully a well-planned transition into something that might give me that little bit of purpose and fulfilment.”

Reid has also served on the first-team coaching staff of the Scotland national team, West Brom, Crystal Palace and Reading.
