ENGLAND UNDER-21 assistant Aaron Danks is leaving the Football Association after five years to become Vincent Kompany's number two at Anderlecht.

Sporting Director Peter Verbeke said: “We have chosen someone who fits perfectly in the way we want to structure the technical-tactical part of the sporting operation."

Danks joined the FA in June 2016 as Lead National Specialist Coach and was promoted to Head of Specialist Coaching in January 2019.

After the FA scrapped the specialist coaching system (with its in and out-of-possession coaches) last year, he was appointed U21 assistant to Aidy Boothroyd. His departure means the FA are now looking for an entirely new U21 coaching team, with Head Coach Aidy Boothroyd having also departed last month.

Danks worked for West Brom for 11 years before joining the FA, latterly as their Lead Professional Development Phase Coach.

He replaces Jonas De Roeck at Anderlecht and joins an already strong British contingent with the Belgian side, with Damian Roden as Director of Performance, Craig Bellamy as U21 coach and Lee Mooney as data science consultant.
