Graeme Carrick has left his role as Newcastle United Under-18s coach to join the first-team staff of brother Michael at Middlesbrough.

The 39-year-old began his coaching journey with United's Academy between 2005 and 2007 and returned in August 2022 after 15 years with the Football Association. At Boro he joins Jonathan Woodgate, Grant Leadbitter and Alan Fettis on the senior coaching staff and replaces Aaron Danks, who left last week to work with Vincent Kompany at Bayern Munich.

Steve Harper, Newcastle's Academy Director, said: "I would like to thank Graeme for his excellent work in developing our young players both on and off the pitch. Whenever a player of staff member moves on to first team opportunities, whether it's here or elsewhere, we can all be very proud of them.

"Middlesbrough are getting a great guy, a very good coach and we all wish him every success with his new role. The search for a new U18s Lead Coach has already begun."

Meanwhile, Jack Brazil has been appointed U16s Lead Coach at Newcastle and starts work with them on July 1st.

Brazil was previously U18/19 Assistant at PSV Eindhoven and writing on LinkedIn he said: “Very excited and grateful for the opportunity to work at such a well supported, forward-thinking club in a football crazy city.”
