DEAN AUSTIN has been appointed Head of Recruitment at Coventry City, replacing Chris Badlan, who was named Sporting Director at Blackpool last month.

Austin, 52, is hugely experienced, having held senior coaching, scouting, analysis and leadership roles in the game. He joins from Blackpool, where he he had been a recruitment consultant since November 2020.

Manager Mark Robins said: “We are delighted to welcome Dean to Coventry City. Dean brings a wealth of experience across football to the Club in what will be an important role for us both in the short-term, looking to the January transfer window, and longer-term as we look to continue the development of our football club and team, as we have done over the last few years.

“The recruitment of players and having the right processes in place to do so is very important, and we look forward to working closely with Dean in this area.”

Austin played for clubs including Tottenham and Crystal Palace as a player, before moving behind the scenes. He is a Spanish speaker and holds the UEFA Pro Licence and LMA Diploma in Sports Management, as well as being part way through the FA Technical Director Level 5 award.

The former defender has been a manager, at Northampton Town; an assistant, at Watford, a Director of Football, at St Albans City, as well as holding recruitment and analysis roles.
