This was a strategic role that involved overseeing the club’s medical, sports science and strength and conditioning provision across the Academy and men’s and women’s senior sides.

Abbott will serve a notice period at Brighton before joining League One Charlton early in the New Year. In his new role, he will oversee the performance services provision across the whole club, including medical, nutrition, sports science and psychology across all teams.

Technical Director Andy Scott said: “We interviewed a number of really talented candidates and Will was the standout. I think everyone looks at Brighton with admiration and envy and we believe the experiences Will has had over the last decade, as well as his undoubted knowledge, will help us set the high standards in the performance departments which improve the whole club.”

Josh Hornby, who has worked for Charlton for almost 12 years, will continue as Head of Physical Performance, working 'hands-on' focus with the senior side.

Abbott presented at TGG's Recovery Webinar, alongside Tony Strudwick, Marcus Hannon, Anna West and Scott Guyett.
