Allen promoted to Sporting Director by Stockport

He replaces Simon Wilson, who was promoted from Sporting Director to Chief Executive in February 2025 and who has just left the club after six years’ service.

Allen will oversee alignment across recruitment, football strategy, player development and squad planning “to ensure consistency across the football operation”, Stockport said. The former Stockport player, who made 57 senior appearances for the club, will commence his role as Sporting Director on July 1st.

Stockport County Owner Mark Stott said: “As we advance long-term plans for Stockport County, it is vital that our football operation is designed for the long-term and is delivered in a consistent, connected way.

“The Sporting Director role is about setting that direction and ensuring the right structures are in place across recruitment, player development, and squad planning.

“Since relaunching the academy, Damien has led a significant rebuild, establishing a clear framework for recruitment, coaching, and player progression. His new role will shape the next phase of our football development and performance, both on and off the pitch, in a sustainable way.”

Allen added: “It is a real honour to take on this role at a club that means a great deal to me. We have built strong foundations over the last few years, and I’m looking forward to continuing that work by supporting long-term success across the football operation.”

Meanwhile, Mike Jeffries is being promoted from Head of Coaching to replace Allen as Academy Director. He has been with Stockport for almost six years and will lead plans to achieve Category Two status by May 2027.
