Derek Adams has started his new role as Director of Football at Plymouth Argyle.
Adams began work on Monday and will have responsibility for the men’s first team at the League One club. He will manage the team structure and support Head of Football Operations David Fox and Head Coach Tom Cleverley by providing strategic guidance, rather than having day-to-day coaching responsibilities.

Former Argyle midfielder Fox was appointed as Head of Football Operations in May, replacing Neil Dewsnip, who left his role as Director of Football in January. Tom Randle joined as Head of Recruitment at the same time.
It is Adams’ second spell at Home Park, having had a four-year stint as Manager from 2015, during which time he led the club to promotion from League Two.
After leaving the club in 2019, Adams went on to have three spells in charge of Morecambe and also managed both Bradford City and Ross County.
Chairman Simon Hallett said: “Derek is someone who knows Argyle well after a long period of time here as manager. He has extensive knowledge across all areas of the football pyramid in both England and Scotland and will provide valuable support to both David and Tom as we look to come through this challenging period.
“He is someone that has experience of tough circumstances and will work closely with all areas of the men’s football department to ensure results and performances improve.”
‘Experience and expertise’
Chief Executive Paul Berne added: “We are all aware the situation we are in is not good enough and the Board believe bringing in someone of Derek’s experience will support us as we work to improve. He will work closely with the men’s football staff as we approach a busy period of fixtures and head towards the January transfer window.
“He has the experience and expertise to contribute immediately to planning and decision-making.”
Plymouth were relegated from the Championship in May after two seasons at that level and are currently bottom of League One having lost their last four league games.
Cleverley was appointed as Head Coach in June to succeed Miron Muslic.
