Academy Manager Steve Haslam is leaving Sheffield Wednesday after almost two decades to join the Professional Game Academy Audit Company (PGAAC).
The former defender, 45, started his playing career at Hillsborough and captained England schoolboys. He went on to make more than 100 appearances for the Owls and returned to the club in September 2005 as a part-time Academy coach.
Haslam went on to become Lead Professional Development Phase Coach and Head of Academy Coaching for the Owls before being appointed Academy Manager in 2017. Now he has secured a new role as an Auditor with PGAAC, specialising in Leadership and Management.
Speaking to the Wednesday’s official website, Haslam said: “As a lifelong fan of Sheffield Wednesday, I have been both honoured and proud to represent the club as a player, Academy coach and for the last seven-and-a-half years, Academy Manager.
“I have many people to thank for their support and hard work, from the chairman through to all the staff with whom I have enjoyed such a positive relationship. It has been a very difficult decision to make as I have forged excellent relationships with everyone working across the club and community.
“We have some exciting talent emerging through the Academy age groups, but I feel the time is right to embark on a new challenge in my career. I wish everyone connected to Wednesday a successful season and all the very best in the future.”
Category Two Wednesday placed 52nd in TGG’s Academy Productivity Rankings for 2023/24, down 10 places from 42nd in 2021/22.
